STYLE Taking Flight By Gwendolyn Plummer Monday, January 20, 2020 12:30 AM Download a PDF of Taking Flight.WHO: For men who like the classics, but crave a twist. WHAT: Aviators have been a classic in men’s eyewear for decades, but modern materials, technology, and colorways easily bring the style into 2020. WEAR: (Top to Bottom) From Mykita, the Elgard is a super lightweight take on the aviator, featuring a squared silhouette and a minimal colorway. From Thélios’ Berluti, style BL50012U offers a thin interpretation of the classic, in a bright, bold silver featuring Berluti’s signature scritto engraved along the temples and rims for added texture. From ESE’s Cazal, style 7076 is a semi-rimmed aviator with a gold double brow bar that extends to the temples, bringing intricate detailing to a classic style. Finally, Blake Kuwahara’s Skidmore brings a bold, artistic take to a normally understated shape, with cutouts and temples that are both minimal and statement making at the same time. WHY: It may be a classic shape, but the aviator, open to endless reinterpretations and modern twists, is anything but overdone. gplummer@jobson.com
