NEW YORK—This year’s Rockin’ for New Eyes (RFNE), a benefit concert for New Eyes for the Needy, had special significance for the musicians—members of the optical industry—who viewed the New Year’s Eve event as a way to bring their colleagues together from afar, and support New Eyes’ mission to bring eyeglasses to those in need, during an unprecedented year.

SHORT HILLS, N.J.—Given COVID-19, New Eyes for the Needy has put a new spin on Rockin’ for New Eyes (RFNE), an annual benefit concert performed by musicians who work in the optical industry. “We came up with the idea of a ‘Recorded Live’ event and airing it on New Year’s Eve because none of us are going to any parties or large gatherings,” John Alofs, a New Eyes board member and RFNE musician, said.

DENVER—Essilor executives and others expressed their gratitude—and other sentiments—at a farewell reception the company hosted here last month for Dr. Howard Purcell, who in April was named as president and chief executive officer of the New England College of Optometry. Purcell, the former senior vice president of customer development for Essilor of America, assumed his new role at NECO on July 2.
