SAN FRANCISCO—In January 2016, Arian Fartash, OD, started her blog,
Glam Optometrist, as a social media amateur, however, she didn’t let her lack of social media marketing skills keep her from success. In just one and a half years, she has transformed from a newbie blogger to an Instagram guru with over 16,000 followers.

COOL, Calif.—This summer, the staff at
Cool Optometry have found an unlikely yet creative way to get their patients involved with their practice. Rather than tempting customers into the store with trunk shows or sunglasses sales, they have started hosting paint ‘n sip classes as a fun activity for the community and to provide a way for people to get familiar with the staff.

RICHBORO, Pa.—Dr. Scott Zeigen, MD, FAAO, has always been a bit of a self-starter. He’s been running his own ophthalmology practice,
Richmond Eye Care, since 1990 and just a few years later, started a company called
medDB, LLC to design and sell software to health care professionals, especially those in the optical industry.

Salisbury, N.C.—This month,
Salisbury Eyecare and Eyeware proved that one of the best ways to get involved in the community is to serve some cold beer. The eyecare boutique took part in Downtown Salisbury’s Summer Sip, a part of the town’s monthly Friday Night Out tradition. The fun event drew plenty of potential clients into their office and raised awareness of their relatively new practice.

CARMEL, Ind.—There aren’t many parents who will open up a new business based on the whims of their children, but Dr. Jeremy Ciano, OD, did just that and is now reaping the benefits. When Dr. Ciano’s then 4-year-old son, Alex, told his dad of his dream to one day open a “kids only” optometry practice, Dr. Ciano took the idea to heart.
