NEW YORK—These days, many consumers are striving to use their privilege positively. They donate, they volunteer, they protest, and, increasingly, they shop with intent. Social purpose has become a central feature in the way consumers—particularly Millennials—shop: Americans are looking to businesses when it comes to social purpose initiatives, hoping they will take the lead to drive these changes.
