Vision Monday's signature annual report on the Top 50 U.S. Optical Retailers was released this week, in
VM's June issue and on
VisionMonday.com. The 2024 report, which examines companies' sales and location counts for the country's leading retailers, including mass merchants and warehouse clubs, is based on calendar year 2023 information and
VM estimates. The collective sales of VM’s Top 50 U.S. Retailers rose 8 percent in 2023 compared with 2022, to reach an estimated $20.1 billion from 16,369 locations, the report shows. The Top 10 retailers accounted for 84.5 percent of overall Top 50 sales.

Staff retention, continued inflation and the capability to provide a better patient experience were just a few of the challenges that eyecare professionals and optical retailers faced in 2023. The 2024 VM Top 50 U.S. Optical Retailers report is based on calendar year 2023 locations and sales provided by companies along with
VM’s estimates.
VM's research with retailers revealed that upgrades and investments in operations and technology, including remote and telehealth equipment, continued to gain traction among the Top 50 in 2023.

Vision Source, a North American network of independent private practice optometrists, has once again found itself at the top of this year’s VM Top 50 Optical Retailers list. Founded in 1991 with a focus on and commitment to the long-term success of independent optometry, the organization in calendar year 2023 reported 2,994 practice locations in the U.S. with a membership of 4,500 optometrists and sales of $2.938 billion. At The Exchange 2024, held in April, Vision Source announced two new programs that expand on its offerings to members: an Associate OD Placement Program and an employee health care benefits program.
