The correspondence of the eye and the central nervous system (CNS) is one that is well-established and of particular interest in the arena of neurodegenerative diseases (NDDs). NDDs are onerous to diagnose in their initial stages, and once identified, hold guarded prognosis since treatments are palliative. As the understanding of NDD mechanisms rapidly evolves and improved treatments targeting these disease processes have been developed, the eye has become a focal point of what may soon provide a roadmap for early NDD detection.
