MADRID—Indizen Optical Technologies (IOT), a global leader in ophthalmic technology, has announced the appointment of Dr. José Alonso, a distinguished vision scientist, co-founder and longtime senior advisor of IOT, as its chief innovation officer (CINO). Dr. Alonso's expertise in optical metrology, ophthalmic optics and his profound understanding of visual science are expected to accelerate IOT's mission to revolutionize eyecare through cutting-edge technological advancements, the company said in a statement. Dr. Alonso's appointment as CINO is part of a strategic organizational restructuring aimed at optimizing IOT's innovation capabilities, the company said.

He will report directly to Daniel Crespo, CEO of IOT, ensuring a streamlined approach to innovation and product development, IOT said.

Dr. Alonso's impressive career spans over three decades, during which he has made significant contributions to the fields of optical metrology and ophthalmic optics. He has authored or co-authored over 60 research articles in leading scientific journals, directed numerous research projects, and co-invented more than 20 patents. In addition to his role at IOT, Dr. Alonso is a professor at the Complutense University of Madrid, where he has taught courses on vision, ophthalmic lens technology, and other related subjects, the company said.

 
IOT said, in this role, Dr. Alonso will be responsible for leading and coordinating all innovation activities within IOT globally. His primary focus will be on pioneering new initiatives that will reshape the ophthalmic industry landscape, both from a technological and clinical perspective. Key areas of focus will include accelerating innovation in free-form lens designs, and advancing the development of groundbreaking technology, according to the announcement.
