CHICAGO—Prevent Blindness has chosen Michael Block of the Block Business Group as the recipient of the 2016 Prevent Blindness Person of Vision Award. The award will be presented at the Prevent Blindness Person of Vision Dinner on April 14, 2016 at the Lotte New York Palace in New York City.

The Prevent Blindness Person of Vision Award recognizes an individual or organization whose inspired outlook champions healthy vision and its importance for a healthy life.

Block is a prominent figure in the optical market. After graduating from Fairleigh Dickinson University, he began his career in New Jersey as an independent licensed optician in 1972. In 1983 he started Block Buying Group to help independent eyecare professionals get better pricing on frames, lenses and contact lenses. Block is a former N.J. Optician of the Year and was chosen to win the Inc. magazine entrepreneur of the year award. Today, he is president of the Boca Raton, Florida based Block Business Group, a purchasing group and practice management organization for independent eyecare professionals.

The April 14 Person of Vision event will start with a cocktail reception from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00.p.m.; the dinner and program will be from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Andrew Alcorn of Superior Vision is chair of the 2016 Person of Vision Committee.

Prevent Blindness began more than 100 years ago as a non-profit group dedicated to protecting the eyesight of children. All proceeds from the Person of Vision event will go to support the sight-saving programs from Prevent Blindness.
