DRAPER, Utah—1-800 Contacts has acquired Liingo Eyewear, an online eyewear retailer, according to executives of both Utah-based companies.The terms of the deal were not reported. Liingo and 1-800 Contacts are both based in Draper. Under its operating model and positioning to consumers, Liingo offers “free prescription lenses” with each frame order and free in-home try on, of up to two pairs, for a 10-day period, according to its website. According to a report by Utah Business, Liingo Eyewear was founded in October 2016 and subsequently received seed funding in April of this year from Peak Ventures. The deal with 1-800 Contacts occurred in October, according to the report.The online contact lens retailer previously took steps to broaden its optical portfolio with the launch of the brick-and-mortar Lumen Optical stores, as VMail reported. The new acquisition may broaden its customer base even further.John Graham, president of 1-800 Contacts, told Utah Business that “the passionate team and highly customer-centric business model at Liingo are a natural fit for 1-800 Contacts. We look forward to expanding our product offering to include prescription glasses as we continue working to make purchasing eyewear simple and affordable.”Liingo Eyewear co-founder and chief executive officer Douglas Harris told Utah Business that the start-up firm was “very grateful to Peak Ventures for partnering with us as we launched Liingo Eyewear.” He added, “They were amazing partners, and we couldn’t think of a better business to be a part of than 1-800 Contacts as we drive our mission to enable people to express themselves through eyewear.”
