During Summer Sip, Salisbury Eyecare
and Eyewear served “Brown Eyed
Squirrel,” a craft beer featuring a
bespectacled squirrel. Salisbury, N.C.—This month, Salisbury Eyecare and Eyeware proved that one of the best ways to get involved in the community is to serve some cold beer. The eyecare boutique took part in Downtown Salisbury’s Summer Sip, a part of the town’s monthly Friday Night Out tradition. The fun event drew plenty of potential clients into their office and raised awareness of their relatively new practice.
Summer Sip ticket holders spent the evening visiting participating businesses to sample various craft beers. Over 75 people came through the doors of Salisbury Eyecare and Eyewear to browse the selection of frames while they sampled “Brown Eyed Squirrel” from RJ Rockers Brewery.
“I love participating in Summer Sip because it’s so great for downtown and it also gets people to realize we’re here,” commented Melanie Denton Dombrowski, OD, MBA, FAAO, owner of Salisbury Eyecare and Eyewear. “At last year’s summer sip, we gave out sunglasses with our logo on them and the patrons got a kick out of calling them beer goggles.”
Salisbury Eyecare and Eyewear’s involvement in the community has been great for the practice, which opened in January of 2016. Dombrowski makes an effort to keep her practice active by participating in other Friday Night Out events, such as giving out wine samples during Wine About Winter and handing out candy during the town’s October event.

“As a new practice, there are still so many people who don’t know about us or know where we are,” Dombrowski stated.
This year’s Summer Sip resulted in some new clients for the practice. “We had a lot of people say ‘I didn’t even know you guys were here, this space is so beautiful,’ and so on,” said Dombrowski. “We made four or five appointments throughout the course of the evening!”
