BOYNTON BEACH, Fla.—The Neuro Optometric Rehabilitation Association (NORA) has announced that it is offering up to 10 students and residents, with an interest in neurorehabilitation, an opportunity to apply for a student grant to attend its 2024 Annual Conference. The association is also accepting abstracts for consideration for the conference, scheduled to be held Sept. 19-22 in Kissimmee, Fla. Each grant recipient will receive full conference registration and $500 in travel grant funds, according to the announcement.

Grant recipients will be required to arrange for their own lodging but can take advantage of a special conference room rate offered by Embassy Suites by Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista South. To apply for the grant, students/residents must fill out an application form, which includes a one- to three-page essay/paper discussing their interest in neurorehabilitation and/or the values and principles of working as an interdisciplinary team with other professionals who provide rehabilitative services to individuals who have suffered an acquired brain injury.

The application form should be mailed to noraconference@gmail.com. The deadline for submission is June 15, 2024. Winners will be notified by June 30, 2024. To be eligible for the grant program, recipients must attend the full meeting. Grant recipients will have the opportunity to attend presentations in addition to being assigned duties throughout the meeting.

NORA membership is free to students currently enrolled in a certified college of optometry, allied health profession, education, rehabilitation program or in an optometric residency or a fellowship program. “We encourage students/residents from optometry, occupational therapy, physical therapy and other specialties to join NORA and apply for the grant,” said NORA president Charles Shidlofsky, OD.

NORA is also accepting abstracts for consideration for its annual conference. Both NORA members and non-members can submit an abstract for consideration. Posters will be selected based on novelty of topic and scientific merit and will be on display at the conference. The student/resident judged by the NORA student programs committee and committee chair to have the best research project, poster or published paper in the area of neuro-optometric rehabilitation will be eligible to receive the Gus Fourkiotis Student Award and a check in the amount of $500, according to the association.
