Women are reshaping the economy like never before, generating more wealth and driving consumer purchases, according to a report from GWI Zeitgeist titled The female economy: Reshaping the economic power of women - GWI. In fact, 86 percent of women said they’ve made at least one major purchase in the last 3 to 6 months.

With confidence in the economy continuing to weaken, however, many women have put off making major purchases moving forward, instead choosing to focus on savings. Women surveyed in the U.K. were overwhelmingly worried about the rising cost of living. Women in the U.S. were much more comfortable with their current financial situation, the results showed, although a small percentage were worried about higher living costs overall.

Women are cutting back on the types of purchases they made during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, according to the report. Meanwhile, an uptick has been shown in travel and leisure activities.

Finally, the report showed that while finance is still a world designed for men, women have made significant inroads, making up over 40 percent of those working in the sector.
