ANNAPOLIS, Md.—Vision Innovation Partners has acquired Northeastern Eye Institute (NEI), the largest and most comprehensive eyecare center in Northeastern Pennsylvania, complete with 15 locations and one ambulatory surgery center, according to an announcement Wednesday. The acquisition “further strengthens Vision Innovation Partners’ presence throughout Pennsylvania and expands its growing network of ophthalmology practices and ambulatory surgery centers in the Mid-Atlantic region,” the announcement noted. The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Vision Innovation Partners’ footprint now includes 50 practice locations and nine surgery centers across Maryland, Washington D.C., Virginia and Pennsylvania.

It is backed by Centre Partners, a leading middle-market private equity firm focused on the health care and consumer sectors. Vision Innovation Partners’ practices include Chesapeake Eye Care and Laser Center and Maryland Vision Institute, among others.

NEI was formally established in 1984 through the merger of several ophthalmic practices, including those of Dr. Jerome J. Jordan, Dr. William J. Jordan, Dr. Arthur J. Jordan and Dr. William H. Kehrli, among others. Beginning in 1994, the third generation of doctors hailing from members of the founding medical directors came on board at NEI.

The NEI group was ranked at No. 35 in this year's Vision Monday Top 50 Optical Retailers report.

“Our practice was established in 1984 with the goal of providing compassionate and state-of-the-art eyecare,” NEI’s Dr. Arthur Jordan Jr., DO, said in the announcement. “Northeastern Eye Institute is proud to announce we are joining forces with Vision Innovation Partners to further enhance our industry-leading eyecare. We continue our dedication to preserving sight and serving our patients with the same compassion and knowledge we were founded on.”

Northeastern Eye Institute has been a pioneer in comprehensive eyecare in Northeastern Pennsylvania since its founding, noted Vision Innovation Partners chief executive officer Michael Dunn. “Their tradition of service and excellence, and their approach to cutting edge eyecare technology make them a perfect partner for our growing platform.”

Since its founding in 2017, Vision Innovation Partners has continuously demonstrated its commitment to partnering with top-performing doctors and expanding patient access to care across its growing network of practice locations and surgery centers in the Mid-Atlantic region.
