RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif.—VSP Optics today announced it will expand access to the network of distributor labs for its Unity Lenses, a move that the company said will offer VSP network doctors greater freedom of choice in fulfilling Unity Lenses portfolio orders for their patients. The company noted that it will continue its investment in growing the Unity Lenses portfolio, which currently includes single-vision, task-oriented and progressives lens products, but shared that it will be reducing its own VSPOne lab operations as Unity distributor labs assume order fulfillment.

“Doctors have asked for more choice and control in labs they work with,” said Scott Hopeck, VSP Vision chief commercial officer. “The expansion of the Unity distributor lab network will give them that choice and the flexibility to access our leading proprietary lens products. We are confident in the Unity distributor lab network and their proven ability to serve practices with great quality and consistency. While it is a difficult decision to reduce our lab operations, it allows us to better respond to customers and continue our focus to innovate, invest and grow the Unity lens portfolio to meet the needs of network doctors and their patients.”

Unity distributor labs are certified to produce the full suite of Unity products, and as orders shift to Unity distributor labs, VSPOne will begin tapering volume to its labs and will close its Florida, Texas and California locations by 2025. VSPOne locations in Hawaii and Ohio will remain open to fulfill specialty program orders. In light of the planned closings, VSP indicated that it is working to support employees who have been impacted.

“The numbers of those impacted are confidential, but we can share that we are supporting impacted employees in multiple ways, including providing severance pay, career transition support and health care stipends,” a VSP spokesperson told VMAIL.
