WASHINGTON, D.C.—The American Foundation for the Blind (AFB) has announced that Pam McGonigle will join AFB as its chief development officer, effective Sept. 16, 2024. In this new role, McGonigle will oversee all of AFB’s resource development with a focus on bolstering philanthropic support and advancing the organization’s financial stability, according to the announcement. McGonigle brings more than 20 years of experience in development and achievements in the nonprofit sector, most recently as director of development and communications at Overbrook School for the Blind.

Prior to her role at Overbook, McGonigle led fundraising efforts for the U.S. Association of Blind Athletes (USABA). She also serves as a member of the board of directors for Blind Sports Organization and is a graduate council member for Guiding Eyes for the Blind.

“A four-time Paralympian in track and field, Pam has demonstrated on a global stage the highest caliber of teamwork and leadership, qualities that will play a significant role as AFB expands its impact and reach in our second century of work,” said AFB president and CEO Eric Bridges.

McGonigle participated in four Paralympic Games starting with the 1992 Games in Barcelona, where she earned a gold medal in the 3,000m and two bronze medals in the 800m and 1,500m events. She also competed in the Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 Paralympic Games. She is a lifetime member of the U.S. Association of Blind Athletes and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2013, according to the announcement.

McGonigle holds a master’s degree in sport administration from the University of Northern Colorado. She currently resides in Ardmore, Pa. with her husband John, son J.T., and her two retired and current guide dogs.
