PHILADELPHIA—Ilaria Urbanati, fashion stylist for several of today’s hottest celebrities, captured the attention of women ODs who attended the first live event presented by Women In Optometry (WO) magazine at the historic Union League in Philadelphia on June 27. Urbanati shared highlights from the fall fashion runways and tips on creating a personal style that reflects one’s personality.

WO professional co-editor Katie Gilbert-Spear, OD, MPH, also spoke about personal style, noting that women ODs are a natural source for information for their female patients who want to enhance their style with color contact lenses.

Other speakers at the event focused leadership style and management style. Dori Carlson, OD, FAAO, and April Jasper, OD, FAAO, both discussed their path to finding a comfort zone between home and work balance, especially as, in Dr. Carlson’s case, work included a term as American Optometric Association president. Cheryl Engels, OD, MBA, provided practical strategies for managing staff.
