DENVER, Colo.— VOSH/International presented its annual Humanitarian of the Year Award to longtime president of VOSH-Indiana, Jeffrey Marshall, OD, on Nov. 16, 2014, at its annual meeting here. The award honors a VOSH member who has distinguished her or himself through leadership, invention and public health practice or by transitioning clinics to sustainable eyecare or in furthering the understanding and correction of refractive error.

VOSH also presented its newly named Harry Zeltzer Lifetime Achievement Award to Ruth McAndrews, OD, FVI, past president of VOSH/International and VOSH-Iowa. This award is presented to recognize a person who has devoted a lifetime of service to humanity for improving visual welfare through leadership, invention, public health, developing sustainable eyecare and furthering the understanding and correction of refractive error.

The Presidents Circle Award was presented to Canadian optometrist, Marina Roma-March, as team leader of VOSH-BC/TWECS, for the extraordinary 2014 VOSH mission she led to the tornado-ravaged Philippines where over 8,000 people were helped. The Franklin Harms Award was presented to those who had demonstrated participation on at least 10 VOSH clinics. Awards were also presented to new Fellows of VOSH/International, Ellen Weiss, OD; Cheri Lodl, OD; and Albert Nemiroff, OD.
