HOUSTON—Texas-based optometric alliance, Vision Source  announced earlier this week that it has entered into two new relationships with health care delivery networks in Texas.

Vision Source said it has a new relationship with WellMed Medical Management, a large health care delivery network focused primarily on senior care, to deliver vision and eyecare services to the group's members in San Antonio, Austin and Corpus Christi as part of WellMed’s health management program for Medicare Advantage patients. WellMed members will have access to clinicians in the Vision Source network of more than 45 optometric practices and 60 clinicians in those service areas.

With a specialty in providing health care to seniors and focus on prevention, WellMed will look to the clinicians in the Vision Source network to broaden access to high-quality eyecare for its members, the announcement said. Glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy screening exams, especially for those in high-risk groups, will be an integral part of the relationship.

With a comprehensive approach to treating patients, WellMed's model focuses on preventative care and wellness, and the company is an industry leader in medical risk management, highly effective disease management and chronic care programs, health care delivery services and more. WellMed has been specializing in senior health care since 1990.

With more than 70 medical clinics in Texas and Florida, and with supporting services for more than 3,000 independent physicians, the group delivers quality health care to more than 100,000 members, mostly Medicare-eligible seniors.
In addition, Vision Source announced it has executed an agreement with Memorial Hermann Health Solutions, part of Memorial Herman, an accountable care organization (ACO), to provide vision and eyecare services to Memorial Hermann Health System's member base. Memorial Hermann Health System members will have access to the clinicians in the Vision Source network of more than 30 optometric practices and 40 clinicians in the greater Houston area.

"Memorial Hermann Health Solutions facilitates access to the highest quality health care at an affordable cost to Houston employers and residents," said Brian Wells, CEO of Memorial Hermann Health Solutions. "This partnership with Vision Source is another example of our commitment to advancing health in Houston."

Memorial Hermann Health Solutions offers a suite of affordable employer group health insurance plans and a comprehensive, integrated approach to health care benefits and solutions. Memorial Herrmann operates 12 hospitals.

"Vision Source is proud of these new relationships, to provide their members with an enhanced health care experience and the highest level of vision and eyecare services," said Vision Source president and CEO Jim Greenwood. "This innovative solution for collaborative care will help address the need for quality eyecare screenings, management and treatment for a rapidly growing senior population faced with the risk of diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma."
