TAMPA, Fla.— The Foundation Fighting Blindness has presented Kamal Majeed, PhD, CEO and founder of electronic medical records and practice management software developer, NexTech, with this year’s Outstanding New Trustee Award. The Outstanding New Trustee Award is given to a trustee member who has demonstrated notable contributions and sustained dedication to the foundation’s mission of funding research and spreading awareness of retinal degenerative diseases.

For the past three years, Dr. Majeed has worked closely with the foundation as a sponsor and co-chair of the annual Tampa/St. Petersburg Dining in the Dark fundraising event. His personal experience of witnessing family members cope with vision loss has fueled his passion for supporting the foundation. His mother was a victim of vision loss, and his mother-in-law also suffers from the loss of her eyesight due to age-related macular degeneration.

“It is an honor to receive the Outstanding New Trustee Award from the Foundation Fighting Blindness,” said Dr. Majeed. “This is an issue I hold close to my heart. I, like many others, know people who suffer from visual impairments. I consider myself fortunate to be able to continue the foundation’s success and bring its mission to the forefront of the medical community.” Since taking on the role of co-chair of the annual Dining in the Dark fundraiser three years ago, Dr. Majeed has helped the foundation raise more than half a million dollars.
