NEW YORK—As digital device usage crescendos among adults, many ECPs and vision care companies are sharing information and developing new products designed to help reduce eye fatigue and eye strain caused by this 21st century phenomenon.

Against the backdrop of the company’s launch of the new Biofinity Energys contact lens with Digital Zone Optics earlier this month, CooperVision, a division of The Cooper Cos., has made more research and data available to help ECPs and optical retailers discuss the issue with patients.

A new inforgraphic, Tired Eyes, points out how daily device usage impacts vision. The graphic can be shared by ECPs when they have these discussions and on their own social media platforms as well.

More than 90 percent of adults use digital devices more than two hours a day, and nearly 60 percent of adults use digital devices for more than five hours a day. Research conducted by Indiana University cited that among individuals using such devices, greater than 75 percent report eye tiredness and dryness at least once per week or more, and 35 percent once per day or more.

To address the eye health challenges posted by increasing screen time, CooperVision has launched FightEyeFatigue.com a resource that can help eyecare professionals begin conversations with patients about device use in a humorous, realistic and non-threatening manner.

More details about the new lens as well as the new resources are posted here.
