PARIS—Organizers of SILMO 2010, which finished its 2010 show and conference Sept. 23-26 at its new Paris-Nord Villepinte exhibition center venue for the first time, reported that despite some major transportation issues in Paris during the event, that its overall visitor attendance increased 4 percent, to 33,065 total visitors.

There had been a transportation strike on the show's opening day and weekend work on the French RER rail line, linking the French capital to the exhibition center. SILMO's organizers reported a decline of 6 percent in the number of French professionals at the fair, but an increase in the number of international visitors which rose by 14 percent compared to last year's fair.

As previously reported last Friday by VMail, nearly 750 exhibitors participated over the course of the four-day show, and the opening night also honored the 2010 Silmo D'Or Award winners.

Honored during an awards presentation and party held at the Pré Catelan in Paris’ Bois de Boulogne park, this year’s winners included:

  • BBGR for Anateo Mio in the Vision category
  • Nidek for ME 1200 in the Optician Workshop category
  • Swarovski Optik for Jumelles from El Swarovision in the Low Vision/Optic Instrument category
  • Logo for Frou Frou 6114 from the Barbapapa Collection in the Children category
  • Logo for Automatic TAG Heuer in the POS Equipment category
  • Rolf with the Giulia frame in the Optic Frame category
  • Wood Optic Diffusion for the Boucheron Arabesque BES 148.03 frame in the Sunglass category
  • Julbo for the RX Trem program in the Sport Equipment category

The Special Prize for "Sustainable Development" was awarded to CTS France; while special recognition for, the Silmo D’Or jury was presented to Jacques Durand Lunetier for their VW02 – Veronika Wildgruber
sunglass frame.
