After a month of asking which optical trends are resonating with your customers this summer, you chose Bold Black frames on VisionMonday.com’s VM Quick Poll. Fifty percent of you chose this statement-making trend that is at once modern and reminiscent of rockabilly legend Buddy Holly. Like rockabilly, Bold Black frames have enjoyed a resurgence in popularity thanks, in part, to consumer demand for less generic-looking eyewear. Shoes, bags and jewels are bold in 2009—and so is eyewear.

In fact, you told us that Understated optical trends were the least popular, garnering only 24 percent of the vote. It seems that consumers want to stand out as stars, not fade away into the background. Slightly more interesting to consumers by 26 percent was the Vintage Inspired trend. From a rockabilly perspective, Bold Black frames are also Vintage Inspired, although the modern emphasis seems to be on standing out and making a statement rather than harkening back to yesteryear. In the June issue of Vision Monday, senior editor Deirdre Carroll takes a look at the Vintage phenomenon and why trend setters are doing the “Time Warp” again.

Be sure to vote in our newest Quick Poll to weigh in on which industry technologies are generating interest with your customers.
