Close Up: UV-XBT (Extreme Bonding Technology) was developed based on the needs of Ultra Optics customers to have superior adhesion to all lens substrates. Ultra Optics reports that the patent pending coating was subjected to stringent adhesion tests, and passed each one to the highest standards at a leading independent, accredited testing facility.
Vital Stats: UV-XBT coating gives the user superior hardness, great tintability, untouchable adhesion, unmatched AR compatibility, and excellent surface coverage with one of the lowest yellowness factors (better clarity) of any coating available to the optical industry, according to Ultra Optics. Testing was performed on 1.60, 1.67, 1.74, polycarbonate, as well as on Trivex, Tribrid and CR-39 monomer from PPG.

Vmax Vision Launches VASR, a Subjective Patient Self-Refracting Technology

Top Line: Vmax Vision is introducing the Voice Activ Subjective Refractor (VASR). A patient self-refracting instrument, VASR incorporates the advanced features of Vmax’s Perfectus, which combines a wavefront autorefractor with subjective point spread function (PSF) refraction.
Close Up: Computer-generated artificial intelligence reliably guides the patient through the exam process, discarding results that are not consistent and alerting the doctor if the prescription is not sufficiently accurate. VASR maximizes operational efficiency by eliminating the need to move the patient or transfer data between instruments. In addition, it provides a direct view of cataract formation, natural pupil size and Zernike coefficient, wavefront maps along with other advanced optical functions and analysis. Patient active fixation is another one of the its unique features leading to its superior repeatability and reliability.
The VASR will increase patient flow, cut costs, maximize doctor utility, expand business hours and save time, even for skilled technicians, according to Vmax. It makes it possible to partition an eye exam into refraction and eye health.
Vital Stats: Vmax recommends that a technician be present to attend the patient and oversee the process.

Signet Armorlite Releases New, Improved Kodak Lens Intelligent Dispensing Software

Signet Armorlite has updated Kodak Lens ids to be more advanced and easier to use than ever before, making the entire lens education and measuring process more efficient for the practice and more engaging for the patient. Kodak Lens “See the Colors of Life” brand imagery has been incorporated for ECPs to present the exclusive Kodak Lens Professional Series product portfolio with added color and vibrancy.
Close Up: The software continues to operate on an iPad device for convenience and maneuverability, and contains the frame, lens and measure sections. Kodak Lens ids now includes a ‘spirit level’ function to help make measuring easier and improve the overall accuracy. This level helps correct positioning so measurements are more accurate and precise. Also, the FRED (Frame Reference Device) has been updated to be more durable for better handling and more consistent results.
Kodak Lens ids improves the overall dispensing process with enhanced visual simulations and augmented reality technology, in addition to functioning as a digital measuring device. Interactive demonstrations were redesigned to better visually explain the benefits of Kodak progressive lens designs, Kodak AR lens coatings as well as polarized and photochromic options. Kodak Lens ids continues with the goal of helping ECPs communicate and educate patients about their eyewear options.

Vital Stats: Available as a two-year lease per iPad device, Kodak Lens ids arrives to ECPs as a ready-to-use turnkey solution with nothing to install– there’s no app to purchase or download separately. The measuring kit (back plate and FRED) is included along with the latest model iPad that has Kodak Lens ids software already installed. The cost to lease the Kodak Lens ids is $155 a month, billed as automatic recurring payments for the two-year lease period. Any additional Kodak Lens ids licenses within the same practice location are offered at $75 a month for the two-year lease period.
