GSRx Launches Proper Optics: Complete, Affordable Eyewear for Independents
![]() View Larger Image |
Wearer: Proper Optics is designed to give independent eyecare practices what GSRx describes as “complete, premium eyewear at a price point that allows them to retain more patients in their optical, increase second pair sales and attract new patients.”
Specifics: The Proper Optics product line consists of stylish, high-quality frames and lenses with pricing designed to keep patients in the practice while maintaining profitability. Frame pricing to the patient always includes single-vision lenses in plastic or polycarbonate.
Selling Points: The Proper Optics catalogue includes over 280 frame styles. The Epik lens series includes progressives in three levels of customization, customized single vision and a range of lifestyle and task-specific designs. Lens treatments include Infinity Non-Glare and Infinity Clear Non-Glare, offering premium anti-reflective performance, scratch resistance and cleaning. “Price pressure and intensive marketing from national chains and online retailers is reducing the Rx capture rate and the profitability of independent practices,” said Dave Jochims, CEO of GSRx. “Independent practices are losing revenue, along with the ability to assure the quality of the patient’s visual experience. Proper Optics levels the playing field by giving practices a way to keep price-conscious patients in the practice, while offering the optical quality that meets their standard of care.”
While the performance and style of Proper Optics eyewear is high enough to be a practice’s featured line, it can also work well alongside name-brand frames and lenses, according to Jochims. “Proper Optics can be introduced when it becomes clear that the patient is going to leave with the Rx. It can also provide an attractive second-pair option for a patient who has spent a significant amount of money on a branded first pair. The patient ends up with a more complete vision solution, and the practice increases its revenue,” he said.

Shamir Launches One-Click Spark Mi Measurement Device
![]() View Larger Image |
Wearer: Spark Mi offers patients greater comfort and a hi-tech experience, while it saves the optician time and guarantees precision, the company said.
Specifics: According to the company, the Spark Mi looks and acts like an ordinary tabletop mirror, but is actually an advanced new measuring device that allows ECPs to take all required measurements in one click for clear and most dark lenses.
Selling Points: With Spark Mi, the patient looks in the mirror wearing their chosen glasses. The optician clicks once and the patient’s image is captured. The image appears on the optician’s computer screen, along with an immediate and accurate, automatically measured PD. The optician can now receive other measurements needed from the computer including FH, frame box, DBL, Vertex, panoramic and pantoscopic tilt. For added convenience, a USB cord is included with the Spark Mi to hook up the device to the ECP’s computer. “The Spark Mi is yet another innovation from Shamir designed to drive practice efficiency and patient engagement,” said Mark Becker, VP marketing and strategic partnerships. “We are excited to bring this new offering to Shamir customers to help them grow their practice, save time and create a better patient experience."
