Biomed Engineering Professor Converts Contact Lenses into Smart Devices to Monitor Glaucoma

New contact lens technology to help diagnose and monitor glaucoma and other ocular health conditions may soon be ready for clinical trials. A team of researchers from Purdue University worked with biomedical, mechanical and chemical engineers, along with clinicians, to develop the novel technology. The team enabled commercial soft contact lenses to be a bioinstrumentation tool for unobtrusive monitoring of clinically important information associated with underlying eye health conditions. “This technology will be greatly beneficial to the painless diagnosis or early detection of many ocular diseases including glaucoma,” said Purdue’s Chi Hwan Lee.

MONTREAL, Quebec and NEW YORK—New Look Vision Group announced today that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire New York based Luxury Optical Holdings (LOH). With its existing luxury optical presence in Canada, its prior acquisition of Edward Beiner Group in 2020 and the previously announced partnership with Black Optical earlier this year, New Look Vision Group is now one of the leading luxury optical groups worldwide. The LOH acquisition will more than double New Look's footprint in the U.S., the company said.
