Organizers of Vision Expo Plan to Consolidate Vision Expo East With Vision Expo West in Las Vegas

ALEXANDRIA, Va.—Yesterday, The Vision Council and Reed Exhibitions, organizers of Vision Expo, announced plans to consolidate Vision Expo East, due to be held March 26-29 in New York City, with Vision Expo West in Las Vegas, Sept. 23-26. The decision, according to an announcement sent Friday afternoon, "is based on active and close monitoring of ongoing developments related to the COVID-19 virus; recent reports from public health officials and in line with national and regional authorities and World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines, together with extensive consultation with Vision Expo’s partners at The Vision Council and in the global vision care and services community."

Independents Take to Social Media and Spread the Word About AMD/Low Vision Awareness

NEW YORK—This year, February was AMD/Low Vision Awareness Month. According to Prevent Blindness, AMD, affects an estimated 1.8 million Americans aged 40 years and older, with an additional 7.3 million with large drusen at substantial risk of developing it. Although most of us in the community know the stats and risks associated with AMD, many members of the public might not know just how common AMD actually is. Independents took to social media to share information about AMD and Low Vision Awareness month, including basic information about the disease, resources to help, and more.
