AUSTIN, Texas—Many ECPs are revisiting the components and services that a patient portal can provide to their practice—before patients come in for visits and as a way of accessing secure information about their eyecare afterward. As part of a series of enhancements to VisionWeb's patient portal, the company is pointing out ways that the portal can improve the patient's experience with the practice via new technology and can also reduce administrative tasks for the practice associates.

In addition, VisionWeb pointed out that a new link in their patient portal can also help reduce some of the burdens within the new FTC's Final Contact Lens Rule, which went into effect on Oct. 16, 2020. VisionWeb said that the Rule, posted here requires prescribers to obtain confirmation from their patients that they have received their contact lens (CL) prescription through digital or printed receipts as well as provide additional copies of the prescriptions when the patient request.

VisionWeb noted, "This extra step can be frustrating and time-consuming for patients and eyecare providers. However, Uprise EHR and Practice Management helps provide these automated tools needed for compliance: ODs can upload a PDF form to the patient portal to obtain e-signatures for confirmation of prescription receipts. Patients can also view or print their CL prescription in the patient portal at their convenience.

Vision Monday has reported on the FTC Rule along with efforts to advocate modernizing it.
