Mido 2022 was full of creative meeting spaces.

NEW YORK—After two years without a show, Mido 2022 kicked off in Milan on April 30 through May 2. The trade show was a celebration in more than one way: a reunion for so many, a marking of Mido’s 50th anniversary and a moment to welcome a new era with new energy. About 22,000 visitors from all around the world packed into the Fiera Milano Rho conference center for the event, coming together to network, collaborate and take stock of new technology and products.

Giovanni Vitaloni, president of Mido, said, "The bottom line for this edition is undoubtedly positive because the 22,000 visitors to Mido 2022 were of high quality and driven by a willingness to buy, despite the challenging times, overcoming the adversities of the difficult moment we are experiencing. We confirmed our ability to be a benchmark for the sector, strengthening Mido's role in the creation of business and ideas.

“We have had excellent feedback from exhibitors and visitors alike on the activity experienced here: this is a fresh start for the industry. Exhibitions should be in-person events; the companies are the absolute epicenter of this strategic moment for eyewear globally, and also for the economy of our country. Today, we are all writing a new chapter together. And together we look forward to the future with optimism and confidence."

This year’s show featured 660 exhibitors from 45 countries, with visitors from over 50 countries—including myself. This trip to Mido was my very first, and I was amazed by the scale, color and excitement of the entire event—it was exciting to see brands from all over the world, to learn about things I know well from a new perspective and to bring that show’s bright, creative energy back home to New York with me. The show's hashtag for this year was #LiveTheWonder, a sentiment that was truly brought to life for me in Milan.

Below, we take a look at some images from Mido—they showcase how full of energy and excitement Mido 2022 was. You can also take a look at our VMAIL coverage from Mido for some more facts and figures from the show. Next year, Mido is scheduled for Feb. 4-6, 2023 at Fiera Milano Rho.
