Quick Take: Porsche Design Eyewear has debuted its Spring/Summer 2021 collection. On April 26, 2021, Porsche Design held a press event with Patrick Dempsey, brand ambassador for Porsche Design.
Specifics: The SS21 collection from Porsche Design Eyewear is made up of four concepts: the New Iconic, Hooks, Liquid Titanium and Fusion. The concepts aim to optimize function, reduce to the essentials and overcome the familiar to develop the new best solution.
Selling Point: In the special press event, brand ambassador Patrick Dempsey described the newest Porsche Design frames as “pieces of sculpture.” He favors his Porsche Design reading glasses, but also mentioned that he loves the brand’s sunglasses for how light they are—heavier sunglasses, he explained, often leave marks on the nose that make makeup artists’ jobs that much more difficult, so he can wear Porsche Design sunglasses on set without complaints. Dempsey also said he admires how adaptable and long-lasting Porsche frames are—he told the story of a childhood friend whose dad had a pair of Porsche glasses, and then passed them down to his son. “It’s timeless,” Dempsey said. “Gets better with age, an heirloom.”
When it comes to collaborating with Porsche Design, Dempsey, who has been a Porsche fan since the 70s, said the thing that aligns him and the company is their mutual focus on a “desire to get better and improve. That’s what is aligning us.”
Porsche Design CEO Dr. Jan Becker said, “With Patrick we’ve got a brand ambassador who knows how important clear vision is behind the wheel. He’s a character that is sharing the same vision we have.”
