SALT LAKE CITY—Standard Optical recently announced that ex-Pier 1 Imports executive manager Emily Cannon will be joining the firm, based here, as director of store operations. During her years at Pier 1, Cannon held various management level positions including regional manager and most recently as director of stores in the Northwest Territory. Her experience in multi-site retail and performance management will benefit her as she takes on her new role for the 20-location eyecare chain, according to an announcement from the company.

Cannon said, “I’m ecstatic to join the Standard Optical family. At its fundamental core Standard Optical is in the ‘people’ business and while my experience over the past 21 years has given me firsthand knowledge of the skills needed to succeed as a store manager, a regional manager as well as an executive level manager, it’s the leadership, communication and coaching skills I’ve developed that will benefit the careers of the opticians and managers we have here. I was immediately impressed at the caliber of employees and doctors at Standard Optical and I’m excited about our future together.”

Standard Optical’s vertically integrated strategy combines retail, medical-surgical services, frame importing with the differentiation provided by sister company Opticare Vision Services, Utah’s leading vision plan provider with over 300,000 members.

“We are excited to welcome Emily to the Standard Optical family. Her multi-site experience will be a great addition to our executive management team. She speaks our language with regard to KPIs, performance management and the customer (patient) experience but what stands out about Emily is her unique ability to develop people. She has spent the better part of two decades hiring, developing and training top performing managers,” said Aaron Schubach, CEO of Standard Optical.

“Our 110-year heritage has taught us that skilled, motivated and happy employees ultimately result in happy patients. She has a wealth of knowledge to contribute to our people-performance culture.”
