HAUPPAUGE, N.Y.—SightMD, a leading multi-specialty ophthalmology platform and a portfolio company of Chicago Pacific Founders, has announced a strategic partnership with Mid Island Eye Physicians & Surgeons. The partnership adds five physicians and one location in Bethpage, N.Y., to SightMD’s team of more than 50 physicians working across 25 locations in New York, according to the announcement. SightMD is backed by Chicago Pacific Founders, a leading middle-market private equity firm that focuses exclusively on partnerships with companies in health care services.

The two firms announced their partnership in September and noted the goal is to expand SightMD’s patient-centric care model across the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut tristate area, as VMAIL reported. Earlier this month, SightMD announced its partnership with Lindenhurst Eye Physicians & Surgeons P.C., which added Lindenhurst Eye’s team of five ophthalmologists and two optometrists to the SightMD team.

SightMD’s newest partner, Mid Island Eye, has been one of Nassau County’s pre-eminent providers of comprehensive ophthalmic care, including laser cataract surgery, glaucoma services and treatment for conditions affecting the cornea and retina, according to this week’s announcement. Mid Island Eye’s physicians include Jordan Garelick, MD, Ted Karl, MD, Laurence Rubin, MD, and Gregory Cowan, MD.

“We could not be more thrilled to partner with Mid Island Eye, [and] its talented physicians and staff,” Jeffrey Martin, MD, a founder of SightMD, said in the announcement. “I have known Dr. Garelick, Dr. Karl, Dr. Rubin and Dr. Cowan for many years, and believe their clinically excellent practice and patient-first approach align well with SightMD.”

John Passarelli, a founder of SightMD, said he believes the full-service management services organization of SightMD “will enable Mid Island Eye’s physicians to focus solely on delivering the highest-quality care to the community.”

Mid Island Eye’s Dr. Garelick added in the announcement, “It was clear from the start of our discussions that the SightMD team knew what it took to take our practice to the next level, while preserving the culture and clinical focus MIE has demonstrated for over 50 years.”

Patients and referring doctors should expect no changes to Mid Island Eye’s providers and locations, according to the announcement.
