HAUPPAUGE, N.Y.—SightMD, a multi-specialty ophthalmology platform and a portfolio company of Chicago Pacific Founders, has formed a strategic partnership with Alexander P. Hatsis, Physician, PC, which operates under the name Hatsis Laser Vision, according to an announcement this week. The partnership expands SightMD’s presence on Long Island, adding an additional Nassau County location and three providers to SightMD’s current footprint of 32 locations and more than 70 providers across Long Island and the Greater New York City area, the announcement noted. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Hatsis Laser Vision is one of the region’s leading providers of comprehensive ophthalmic care, including laser cataract surgery, LASIK laser vision correction and retinal services, according to the announcement. The practice is led by its founder, Alexander Hatsis, MD, FACS, with support from fellowship-trained retinal specialist Philip Bonanno, MD, and optometrist, Dr. Leah Shanfeld.

SightMD is a fast-growing integrated ophthalmic provider group that offers patients access to more than 50 ophthalmic surgeons and specialists across 32 New York locations, from the east end of Long Island to Westchester County and Manhattan. The firm is backed by Chicago Pacific Founders, a leading middle-market private equity firm focused on partnerships with growth-oriented companies in the health care services sector, according to the announcement.

The acquisition builds upon SightMD’s leading position in New York and adds the company’s first LASIK suite in Nassau County.

“Hatsis Laser Vision and its providers are a perfect addition to our growing team of clinically excellent, patient-focused providers,” Dr. Jeffrey Martin, a co-founder and president of SightMD, said in the announcement. “I have known and admired Dr. Hatsis for many years, and, today, feel privileged to have the opportunity to call him my partner.”

Dr. Hatsis was one of the expert U.S. surgeons to help gain FDA approval for laser vision correction, and the first surgeon to perform LASIK on Long Island in 1995. He also participated in FDA approval of Phakic Implant Lenses and was the first surgeon on Long Island to treat keratoconus with collagen cross linking in 2007, the announcement noted.
