BLOOMFIELD, Conn.—Acuity Eye Physicians & Surgeons, P.C., a prominent Connecticut eyecare and surgical practice led by Robert Block, MD, has joined ReFocus Eye Health, a nationally-focused, collaborative health care organization. With offices in Bloomfield and Meriden, the practice will continue to offer its patients a full range of surgical and contact lens services, enhanced by the technical and business management expertise provided by ReFocus Eye Health, an announcement said. Now renamed ReFocus Eye Health, the two offices will continue to offer a full range of services including eye exams and contact evaluations.

Surgical services range from LASEK and laser assisted cataract surgery to retinal surgery, glaucoma treatments and much more. Dr. Block will continue to practice at both locations.

“ReFocus is immensely fortunate to have professionals as accomplished as Dr. Block and his team join its family,” commented Dan Doman, CEO, ReFocus Eye Health. “Our goal is to align ourselves with the very best practitioners across the United States, supporting them with systems and services that enable them to practice medicine at their highest levels. We believe patients will be the beneficiaries of this new relationship.”

Unlike many health care investment firms, ReFocus Eye Health emphasizes the building of lasting partnerships with local ophthalmology and optometric practices. It provides management expertise, career development, technical resources, and back-office support, ensuring the profitability and high quality-of-care that outstanding eye health practices require. ReFocus Eye Health is headquartered in Great Neck, N.Y.

“The ReFocus business model is changing the way eye health is practiced nationally,” stated Sean Hayes, partner in Zenyth Partners, permanent capital owner of ReFocus Eye Health. “In a time when clinical practices are facing increasing pressure to compromise their standards, ReFocus is a solution that keeps patient quality-of-care first.

“Within the medical field, ReFocus is renowned for not only for its business acumen, but also for its commitment to putting patients first. This is a hugely positive step for our patients in central Connecticut,” stated Dr. Block. “I look forward to great things for our practice in the years ahead.”

Dr. Block, in practice with Acuity Eye since 2007, has been named to the Best Doctors in Ophthalmology list on numerous occasions and was awarded Most Compassionate Physician in 2012. He is former chief resident at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary and was an early adopter of advanced technology lens implants starting with the Array IOL in 1998, the Starr toric in 2003 and aspheric lenses in 2004. Dr. Block was also one of the first surgeons in Connecticut to implant a Restor multifocal lens in 2005 and a toric in 2007.
