SALT LAKE CITY, Utah—Online contact lens retailer, 1-800 Contacts, is expanding its scope of operations with the launch of Boomerang, an online eyeglass lens replacement service. Launched yesterday, the new service offers rapid service and value pricing. Already in development earlier this year, 1-800 Contacts fast-tracked Boomerang to the market when the coronavirus pandemic hit. “Our approach to innovation has always been driven by the customer’s needs and the development of Boomerang is no exception," said John Graham, CEO of 1-800 Contacts.

"We saw an opportunity to provide a service, much like we do with our contact lens and glasses brands, that allowed consumers to access needed vision care without paying astronomical prices and enduring long turnaround times. Given the current health crisis, we expedited our launch of Boomerang so customers could get their lenses replaced from the comfort of home.”

Boomerang lets customers add any kind of lens to any kind of frame, while saving them an average of 50 percent compared to traditional optical shop prices, according to 1-800-Contacts. The company said that by revitalizing customers’ old frames with new lenses, it hopes to reduce the estimated four million frames that consumers throw away each year.
