The American people are good, but they have a government that is a mess. Everybody in Washington makes excuses. Nobody takes responsibility even when they have direct responsibility.

Ross Perot, the best-performing third-party presidential candidate since Theodore Roosevelt in 1912, speaking in 1992 during his unsuccessful run for the presidency, as reported by Vox.  Perot, who died last week at the age of 89, also ran for the presidency in 1996.
