NEW YORK—The national average for gross revenue at ECP locations increased last week, Oct. 18-24, at a rate of 6 index points. That leaves gross revenue 8 index points above where it was at this point in time (Week 43) during 2019 and 4 index points below where it was during Week 43 of last year, according to Jobson’s most recent Practice Performance Tracker. All optical sales categories increased last week at rates of 4 index points (for contact lenses), 5 index points (for frame units and lens pairs), and 6 index points (for gross revenue and exams/refractions) when comparing last week with the previous week of Oct. 11-17.

With across-the-board increases last week, all optical sales categories improved in relation to an average week in 2019—the index baseline assigned a value of 100 for this Optical Business Tracker. Gross revenue remains at the highest level, now 5 index points above an average week in 2019. All other categories moved closer to an average week in 2019, albeit while still remaining below that benchmark.

Jobson Optical Research selected 1,500 optical locations that have been operating and reporting their sales to its partners, GPN and ABB Analytics, since 2019. The index has been rebased to an average week in 2019. Going forward, this new index base will be used as an arbitrary benchmark and assigned a value of 100.
