With COVID-19 cases rising in 30 states over the past week (according to the CDC COVID Data Tracker), optical sales fell throughout the country. While the majority of service/product categories were down -2 index points (gross revenue, frame units and lens pairs), exams refractions were down -3 index points, and contact lenses remained flat. Although the metrics tracked ended with Sunday, Sept. 6, and did not include Labor Day, the fact that this past week monitored ended with a holiday weekend surely impacted optical sales as well.
