Website accessibility is a major issue for all businesses—and of particular importance for eyecare practices' websites.
W3C.org is the World Wide Web Consortium resource that spells out all of the issues involved, details for making sure your website is indeed accessible for those who have disabilities including vision problems. In addition to providing the tech specs that your web designer should be using, the site also provides info about the options of enlarging typefaces, how audio and video can enhance accessibility and being aware of color choices for categories and sections that enhance accessibility for those with low vision, including mobile versions of your site. The site is also a reference to "Section 508" laws. Section 508, an amendment for the Workforce Rehabilitation Act of 1973, was enacted in 1998, requiring that electronic and information technology developed by or purchased by Federal agencies be accessible by people with disabilities.
