"The Polaroid Project" presents work from some of the most famous artists of the 20th century, along with the cameras they used to create that art. Invented in 1947 by Edwin Land, the Polaroid camera continues to be one of the most iconic cameras ever created, and has inspired the work of countless artists for more than 70 years.

MONTREAL—This summer, the McCord Museum in Montreal, Quebec, is running an exhibition titled “The Polaroid Project: At the Intersection of Art and Technology,” with Safilo’s Polaroid as a corporate sponsor. The exhibition, which was organized by the Foundation for the Exhibition of Photography, New York/Lausanne, in collaboration with the MIT Museum in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and the WestLicht Museum for Photography in Vienna, takes a look at the ways in which the world’s most famous artists have used Polaroid pictures in their inspiration process.

For many artists who will be included in the exhibition, such as Andy Warhol, David Hockney and Louise Abbot, the Polaroid has long been associated with innovation, creativity and capturing the beauty in the spur-of-the-moment. Alongside art from some of the 20th century’s most celebrated artists and the Polaroid cameras they used, Polaroid Eyewear will also take part in the exhibition.

Polaroid Eyewear’s selfie station allows guests to get inspired, too.

The exhibition includes a Polaroid Eyewear branded selfie station, where attendees can try on Polaroid sunglasses and pose against a backdrop inspired by Polaroid Eyewear’s playful nature. In addition, Polaroid Eyewear produced a movie, “The Fishbowl,” for viewing at the exhibition. While the exhibition shows how Polaroid images have inspired artists for decades, Polaroid Eyewear’s involvement will show how the brand continues to grow and inspire, both within and outside the art and photography circles.

“The Polaroid Project: At the Intersection of Art and Technology” runs through Sept. 15, 2019.
