SARASOTA, Fla.—US Eye, a leading group of patient-centric, vertically integrated multi-specialty physician practices, has announced that Dr. Lowrey King, founder of The Retina Center of Charleston, has joined the US Eye network. Through the US Eye partnership, The Retina Center of Charleston will augment services currently supplied by US Eye’s local brand, Carolina Eyecare Physicians, a multi-specialty, multi-location ophthalmology practice also based in Charleston, S.C. The addition of the Retina Center of Charleston brings the total number of US Eye practice locations to 50 across the southeastern United States, an announcement late last week noted.

US Eye is backed by the investment firm Pamlico Capital.
Dr. King has been practicing in Charleston for over 32 years and is a board-certified ophthalmologist and a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He has volunteered his time and expertise to enrich industry organizations, including formerly acting as president for both the South Carolina Society of Ophthalmology and the Charleston Ophthalmological Society.
“Dr. King is a revered retina provider in the Lowcountry, and a colleague whom I greatly respect,” said Kerry Solomon, MD, a member of US Eye’s physicians’ advisory board and medical director of Carolina Eyecare Physicians. “His expertise and commitment to his patients is second to none and we are excited to have him affiliated with our parent company.”
Dr. King also is a current member of the American Society of Retina Specialists and the Charleston Ophthalmological Society. Additionally, he has authored numerous ophthalmology journal articles, book chapters, and has trained over 35 ophthalmology residents during his time as a faculty member at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC).
“I feel very privileged to be asked to partner with the US Eye member platform at large,” Dr. King said in an announcement late last week. “I have grown my practice by always focusing on my patients and creating a warm and welcoming environment. I was delighted to learn that the US Eye patient care model is driven by that same philosophy.”
US Eye’s member practices offer an extensive range of ophthalmic and medical services, including laser cataract surgery, advanced intraocular lenses, all-laser LASIK, glaucoma, retina, cornea care, and more.
