Essilor Instruments Introduces Compact High-Volume Edging System

Product: Pro-E 600 edging system
Top Line: Essilor Instruments USA’s Pro-E 600 edging system features new fast processes designed to increase productivity essential for high-volume labs.
Close Up: The Pro-E 600’s wide range of finishing options offers a high level of accuracy that maximizes efficiency and reduces turn time. The system is reliable, compact, cost-effective, and easy to integrate into any lab, according to Essilor Instruments.
“Essilor Instruments has seen tremendous success of its edging systems in the ECP market. We are now introducing Pro-E 600 to the high-volume labs. While Pro-E 600 is fast, robust, and versatile, it may be most ideally suited for jobs that require specialty edging and mountings. By using Pro-E for these jobs, labs can increase productivity significantly,” said Damien Rousseau, CEO of Essilor Instruments USA.
Vital Stats:
• Designed for high-volume production. Thanks to new processes in all its cycles, this edging system is on average 40 to 50 percent faster than other tabletop edgers, according to Essilor Instruments.
• The system can bevel, mini-bevel, asymmetric and step bevel, groove, mix, drill, chamfer and polish, enabling it to process complex jobs efficiently.
• Provides “right-first-time” rapid results in sizing, axis control and aesthetic mountings.
• Quick integration and intuitive use. Compact design fits easily into lab operations and requires no vacuum or compressed air. Interfaces with laboratory management software (ISO 16284).
• Robust and easy to maintain: The industrial design of Pro-E 600 incorporates long-life components and fast maintenance procedures to maximize its up-time for a great value.

Topcon’s Aladdin Biometer and Corneal Topographer HW3.0 Obtains 510(k) Clearance in the U.S.

Product: Aladdin Biometer with Corneal Topographer HW3.0
Top Line: Topcon Medical Systems announced that the Aladdin Biometer with Corneal Topographer HW3.0 has obtained FDA clearance for distribution in the U.S.
Close Up: One of the main advantages of the Aladdin is the built-in fully featured corneal topographer, a function that saves time and adds accuracy to the IOL calculation measurements. An added feature of the HW3.0 is the use of low coherence interferometry to perform anterior chamber depth (ACD) measurements for a more precise reading. It also features Axial Length (AL), Lens Thickness (LT), Central Corneal Thickness or Pachymetry (CCT), pupillometry and white to white measurement. The incorporated IOL calculation formulae include five of the most widely used IOL calculation formulae. The Abulafia-Koch astigmatism cylinder correction and the Barrett Formula Suite are included in the Aladdin firmware. The Barrett formula was developed by Dr. Graham D. Barrett in 2013 and takes into account the posterior cornea considering the lens position for each individual patient instead of calculating IOL power by estimating lens thickness based on patient’s age. The Barrett formula can also be used to calculate IOL power on eyes that had prior refractive surgery performed.
Vital Stats:
The Aladdin was developed with three key points in mind:
• Speed: Point and shoot acquisition. All necessary measurements are taken in under five seconds.
• Accuracy: Low Coherence Interferometry Technology provides accurate axial length, lens thickness and central corneal thickness information for precise determination of IOL power. When measuring for toric IOL, axis, Surgically Induced Astigmatism (SIA) and Incision location (IL) are also displayed.
• Ease of use: New color coded mires and the incorporation of a status bar showing.
• The progression of the measurements further simplify its use. The operator is only three clicks away from printing the IOL report. The 10.1 inch color touchscreen monitor with its wide angle of view is responsive and comfortable to use.
