Product: MEI Shape Finder 2.0
Top Line: MEI is releasing Shape Finder 2.0, an optical scanning device conceived to improve and complete the functionality of EzFit, the compact edger based on milling technology and addressed to optical stores.
Close Up: EzFit can now be equipped with Shape Finder 2.0 to prepare the edging process of sport and special lenses. The device, which is designed to be integrated into the MEI Tecnocam programming platform installed in every MEI edger, avoids all standard camera-based units’ common errors, according to MEI. The camera lens set and the lighting system have been conceived to emphasize the edge profile in any kind of lens—clear or dark mirrored—and to eliminate the perspective effects and field distortions. The Tecnocam software installed in the EzFit machine interacts directly with Shape Finder 2.0 interface to align the lens and extract the different shapes starting from the outer main shape and converting them into a standard TRX file.
Vital Stats: Shape Finder 2.0 shortens the time needed to import a sport lens shape dramatically, as well as to detect any hole in rimless demo lenses. The camera system gets a TRX or OMA file with a few very simple steps, reducing the need for edging tests and size and shape adjustments. Combining state-of-the-art optics and sub-pixel images detection technique, Shape Finder 2.0 can get precisely defined shapes ready to be used in the Tecnocam programming environment.

QuikEyes Adds Two Application Modules

Product: QuikEyes Version 11.0 cloud-based electronic health record (EHR) system for eyecare professionals.
Top Line: QuikEyes has added an Optical Inventory Management module (QuikInventory) and a Patient Communication Module (QuikCommunications) to Version 11.0.
Close Up: QuikInventory adds the ability to track current product inventory status (eyeglasses, contact lenses, etc.), cost of goods sold, product invoices, accounts receivable and detailed practice management reporting. QuikCommunications facilitates patient exam recalls and appointment reminders and allows for the creation of patient lists by specific criteria. This includes patient email and text capabilities directly from QuikEyes. Patient messages can be customized and branded by practice. “Having a fully embedded Patient Communication module was a unique goal of ours,” said Matt Lowenstein, OD, QuikEyes CEO. “Many EHR systems use third party communication software systems which are expensive and require export of patient data from the EHR to the third party. We believe our embedded system will be more efficient and will definitely be less expensive for our users than using an outside communications vendor.”
Vital Stats: QuikEyes, the Software as a Service (SaaS) ambulatory eyecare system, provides practice management and EHR systems to corporate and private eyecare practices. It has been developed, managed and supported by Tricension using leading edge cloud technology, including the Microsoft technology stack and the .Net application framework.

Product: Safety Eyewear Mobile App
Top Line: Eyeweb.com, an online provider of safety eyewear, is releasing Android and Apple mobile Apps that allow employees to purchase prescription safety eyewear anywhere, anytime.
Close Up: The app includes functionality to upload written eyeglass prescriptions and "selfie" photos to the Eyeweb cloud where employees can virtually try on and purchase prescription safety eyewear using their company-paid benefits.
"This new functionality allows us to extend eyewear accessibility beyond our permanent safety kiosks and desktop locations. Employees can now virtually try on and take advantage of our proprietary digital measurements from literally anywhere in the world," commented Hal Wilson, Eyeweb's president. "Customer input from both large and small companies was the driving force behind this effort. Addressing the needs of remote and geographically disbursed workforces is now possible with the Eyeweb app. We believe the Eyeweb app in conjunction with our kiosk and desktop solutions are a huge step forward in offering a truly enterprise-wide solution."
Vital Stats: EyeWeb also offers:
  • Safety Kiosks—Eyeweb pioneered the delivery of online safety eyewear and developed the first onsite kiosk application. Employees capture their digital image using a HD camera and virtually try on and purchase safety frames at the kiosk saving travel and time away from work.
  • Digital Measurements—EyeWeb was granted a patent for its System and Methodology for Measuring Pupillary Distance using a Fitting Pad or Calibration Strip in April 2013.
  • Desktop Applications—Allows employees to access their company microsite from an office or home computer and use their benefits to purchase safety eyewear.
  • Measurements for Optometrists—EyeWeb developed a unique sonar system for opticians and optometrists that completely eliminates re-makes due to measurement errors.
