New Tonometer is Puff-less and Patient-friendly

Product: Icare Rebound Tonometer
Top Line: The Icare Rebound Tonometer is designed for glaucoma detection and control. It makes the IOP measuring routine quick, effortless and effective, according to Icare.
Close Up: No anesthetic or disinfection is needed. As a result, the patient flow can be kept dynamic even with massive screening programs. The Icare tonometer's disposable probe touches the cornea very lightly for only a fraction of a second.
The measurement is barely noticeable by the patient and therefore suitable even for non-compliant subjects, such as children and dementia patients.
Icare has worldwide official approvals (CE, U.S. FDA, SFDA etc.) and satisfied users in over 50 countries. Clinical studies show that the data obtained by Icare is fully comparable to measuring results obtained with the GAT.
Vital Stats:
  • No calibration, anesthetic or air puff, 4 AA batteries (good for 12 months)
  • Easy to use and proven to be accurate, repeatable and patient friendly
  • Used by prestigious ophthalmology departments such as Wills Eye Hospital, Cleveland Clinic, Duke, Johns Hopkins

Frames Data Redesigns Website

Product: www.framesdata.com
Top Line: Frames Data, a provider of product information and database services for the optical industry, has re-designed its website for optical retailers at www.framesdata.com. The new design launched earlier this month and is now live for active subscribers to search for frame information and wholesale pricing.
Close Up: According to Frames Data, this redesign reflects the shift of optical retailers toward digital products and services delivered over the internet. "Frame dispensers have become more comfortable with using websites to process orders and even access practice management software. At the same time, use of our website has grown dramatically over the last few years. We felt the need to provide a higher level of functionality that savvy web users were expecting," said Tom Doyle, director of marketing.
The advantages inherent in a web-based experience have also driven this upgrade. "We add new frames to the database every day we're in the office," said Doyle. "We add new photography every day, too. The website is the best place to give customers access to the updates. Now they have a cleaner, more user-friendly design with which to do it."
The main changes to the site, besides a cleaner, more modern look, include consolidation of search filters onto one page, improved search functionality that updates results as criteria are added, and enhanced branding and advertising opportunities.
“We're very excited by the reaction from our customers so far," said Tom Lamond, president of Frames Data. "With any change, you expect there to be a learning curve, but in this case the response has been very positive."
