Lensbond System Eliminates Drilling With Nano Bonding
Product: Lensbond LB 1 and LB2
Top Line: The Lensbond system, developed by Lensbond Research & Development GmbH in Salzburg, Austria, is the first assembly technology that dispenses with drilling and opens up new possibilities based on nano bonding. The company currently offers two styles of eyewear: LB1, a titanium/plastic combination (pictured at left) and LB2, which is full plastic.
Close Up: According to Lensbond, adhesive joining methods offer a number of advantages over mechanical processes for the connection of eyewear components. Adhesives spread loads and stresses over the entire bonding surface, distributing static and dynamic loads more uniformly instead of concentrating them on highly stressed points. Adhesive bonds are more resistant to stresses caused by bending and shock. Uniform distribution of stress eliminates peak stresses from drilling, and lens warpage that causes optical distortions is eliminated. The risk of breakage due to micro-cracks is also eliminated, providing a safety benefit. All common types of lenses (standard plastic, polycarbonate, Trivex, high-index) can be used, as well as coated lenses. Lens cleaning is facilitated by the elimination of projecting parts of the frame. The eyewear is made exclusively of top quality lightweight materials such as refined titanium combined with a variety of high-tech plastics. All parts are anti-allergenic and gentle on the skin. Temples are interchangeable and fully adjustable.
Vital Stats: Lensbond offers service and intensive training along with its technology and our product. The company also provides customer-specific production solutions based on minimum sized orders. Lab Italee is the U.S. distributor for Lensbond.

Order Tracking Software Designed for Opticians
Top Line: Clopsy is an optical order tracking application specifically designed to automate the order management process. It is a web-based software application developed to manage the entire life cycle of a patient order, from purchase date to dispensing of the final product.
Close Up: Clopsy was created by Sam Schrup of Discerning Eye, a family-owned optical store based in Iowa City, Iowa. According to Schrup, Clopsy was designed to alleviate the common frustrations with managing and tracking optometric frame and lens orders for customers via manual methods. In addition to order tracking, Clopsy offers an automatic alerts system featuring 18 customizable alerts and warnings. Alerts can be set to notify staff when order delays occur at the lab, or they can be used to notify staff when a customer needs a second reminder to pick up their glasses or contacts. Other features of Clopsy include “canned” reports for optician performance, lab order history, average lab turnaround time and remake statistics. A comprehensive order search engine tool is also available which provides search functionality based on a number of criteria such as patient name, lab or optician.
Vital Stats: Clopsy is fully scalable software application available in convenient monthly subscriptions; each subscription plan includes every feature of Clopsy. There are plan designs to fit every size optometric practice with each plan accommodating a predefined number of orders per month. The Start Up Plan is $24 per month and allows up to 75 orders. The Basic Plan is $49 per month and allows up to 150 orders. The Premium Plan is $74 per month and allows for up to 300 orders.
