Mykita Launches Bespoke Design with MVO Collection

Quick Take: Mykita has released the My Very Own (MVO) eyewear collection of exclusive optical and sun styles. The MVO collection integrates three digital technologies to tailor the design and fit of every pair of glasses to the individual topography of every face.
Wearer: According to Mykita, a perfectly tailored frame is not only important for the sake of appearance, but a prerequisite for optimal vision. To date, the combination of anatomic design, digital technology and optometric perfection is the first of its kind and will affect a new sense of sight in wearers of corrective eyewear, the company said.
Specifics: The MVO process also incorporates individual lens centering data to ensure the lens is precisely positioned in front of the eye. Other customizable options include choosing the eyewear shape, color, lenses, hinges and inner temple personalization.
Selling Points: To achieve the bespoke design, Mykita has partnered with Volumental, a leader in the field of product customization, to map the contours of the face using a 3D scanner. Then the digital frames undergo a process of parametric design, where the MVO algorithm can formulate billions of micro-adjustments, such as the width of the frame or the position of the nose pads, to guarantee optimal fit and aesthetic proportions.

Acuvue Oasys 1-Day Presents Tear-Infused Design

Quick Take: Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Inc. has launched Acuvue Oasys 1-Day with HydraLuxe Technology, a new lens with a tear-infused design.
Specifics: Four key technologies help create a tear-like lens in order to help support a patient’s tear film each day – 1) tear-infused material, complementing the natural tear film with an enhanced network of tear-like molecules, that integrates with contact lens wearers’ own tear film each day; 2) electrolyte-balanced packaging solution to mimic human tears; 3) enlarged optics to help wearers to see clearly even when their pupils may be enlarged due to low-light; and 4) increased lens diameter to ensure full corneal limbus coverage during blinking.
Selling Points: For a majority of contact lens wearers (59 percent), contact lens performance declines throughout the day, correlating with the number of activities performed, and research shows that a full day of activities can lead to eye fatigue and tired eyes. “We honed in on the human insight that patients need contact lenses that can keep up with the daily demands of today’s modern life,” said Millicent Knight, OD, vice president of professional affairs. “This includes looking at computers, smartphones or even living in air-conditioned buildings. Each one is a potential contributor to destabilizing the natural tear film throughout the course of the day, causing a decline in contact lens performance.”
