Dragon Launches First Rx Line for Spring 2013

Authentically rooted in the Southern California active youth lifestyle market, Dragon Alliance has debuted its first optical collection for Spring of 2013 in conjunction with the company’s 20 Year Anniversary.
Wearer: Designed for the sophisticated consumer with a passion for action sports.
Specifics: Dragon’s Rx line includes 14 styles, with three additional Rx sun pieces being offered to round out the line.
Selling Points: Constructed from double laminated customized zyl, Dragon’s optical collection features a unique, custom milled metal hinge with a hidden Dragon logo stamped on the inside in a bold contrasting red. Additionally, all Dragon Rx frames feature an occipital fit temple design, custom colors and a classic Dragon nameplate inside the temple. Dragon has also named surf icon and style guru Rob Machado as the face—and hands-on ambassador—of its optical line. An award winning professional surfer, Machado is also an accomplished musician with interests in photography and art, making him the perfect spokesperson to represent Dragon’s athlete inspired designs.

PPG Launches Tribrid in North America

PPG Industries, Thai Optical Group and X-Cel Optical Company announced the North American launch of Tribrid lenses.
Wearer: Suited to patients with higher prescriptions within the +/-3.00 to +/-7.00 diopters range, Tribrid material features optical clarity (Abbe number 41), lightweight comfort (density1.23 grams per cubic centimeter), thinness (refractive index 1.60), impact resistance (withstands more than 160 times the energy of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration drop ball test) and protection (100 percent protection from ultraviolet radiation [UV]).
Specifics: Tribrid lenses were developed by PPG's optical products business using a hybrid approach merging elements of the chemistry for Trivex lens material with traditional high-index lens chemistry. The result is a high-index lens that provides the patient with a superior combination of performance benefits, according to Christine Camsuzou, PPG general manager, optical materials.
Selling Points: Tribrid lenses will be available this summer from X-Cel Optical in semi-finished single vision clear and Transitions lenses. Tribrid lenses are compatible with digital, free-form processing and anti-reflective coatings.
