NEW YORK—National Sunglasses Day is often a day when those both within and outside the optical industry can celebrate together—and this Tuesday, June 27, is gearing up for exactly that. For those of us within the industry, National Sunglasses Day offers a perfect opportunity to remind everyone of the importance of protecting their eyes from UV rays, and for those outside the industry, the day offers the perfect moment to learn about UV protection while showing off their best sunglasses selfie. We’re just a few days out from National Sunglasses Day 2023, but there’s still plenty of time to get ready and get involved with the big day.

Affiliates and Members to Amplify Optometry’s Essential and Expanding Role in Health Care During Optometry’s Meeting
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Against the backdrop of Optometry’s Meeting being held this week in Washington, D.C, more than 650 doctors of optometry, students and paraoptometric professionals are attending more than 450 AOA on Capitol Hill meetings to advocate for optometry’s policy priorities and reinforce the profession’s essential and expanding role in health care. Doctors and students will connect with legislators to urge support for the Dental and Optometric Care (DOC) Access Act, key federal legislation to push back against anti-patient, anti-doctor policies implemented by health insurers and vision plans.

Number of Job Openings on Main Street USA Remain High, NFIB Report Says
Small business owners continue to struggle to find workers, with 45 percent (seasonally adjusted) of all owners reporting job openings they could not fill in the current period, according to a recent jobs report by NFIB. The share of owners with unfilled job openings exceeds the 49-year historical average of 23 percent. Of those hiring or trying to hire, 92 percent of owners reported few or no qualified applications for the positions they were trying to fill.
