It’s a Tough Job, But Somebody’s Got to Do It

Behind many successful eyecare practices and optical shops is a prescription laboratory that stands ready to handle almost any job it is asked to do. Although extreme or unusual prescriptions are usually done by specialty houses such as Quest Vision Care in Largo, Fla., many labs say they often process challenging prescriptions that test the ingenuity and lens processing prowess of their production team. To get an idea of the technical feats labs regularly perform, I asked a few lab managers to describe the most challenging job their lab has recently produced, and explain how it was done.

VM’s Top 50 Optical Retailers: Consolidation Reorders the Ranking

NEW YORK— It was a busy year in 2017 across the optical retailing business in the U.S. Many companies enjoyed modest organic growth as the U.S. economy continued to grow, the stock markets pushed upward and consumers and patients remained confident in their outlook for the future, a confluence of events that, in one way or another, played into a steady performance for optical retailing and eyecare overall last year. As a result, a reshaping of the U.S. optical industry continued among the industry's largest retail and ECP group players last year. The 2018 VM Top 50 U.S. Optical Retailer's Report exclusively assesses 2017 calendar year sales, revealing new positioning among the Top 10 players within 2018's Top 50 ranking.
