My First Job In Optical

First jobs are a bit like first dates. You’re not quite sure what to expect, but you feel excited about the possibilities. You wonder, does this feel right? Will it develop into something more? The only way to find out is to jump in with both feet and hope for the best. This week, we’ve asked some industry veterans to describe their first job in optical, and tell us what they learned from it. Their work experiences provide not only a window on their early career, but also a glimpse into corners of our industry that you may have never have set foot in yourself. If you’ve got a first job story you’d like to share, contact us at VMailWeekend@visionmonday.com.

Meyer’s explanation? “I'll admit, I was a skeptic. 27 lenses in one eye seems impossible. But I proved myself wrong for science!,” he wrote in his ODs on Facebook post.

CARMEL, Ind.—There aren’t many parents who will open up a new business based on the whims of their children, but Dr. Jeremy Ciano, OD, did just that. When Dr. Ciano’s then 4-year-old son, Alex, told his dad of his dream to one day open a “kids only” optometry practice, Dr. Ciano took the idea to heart. After six years of owning his family practice, RevolutionEYES, Dr. Ciano opened up a second practice just for children and called it Little Eyes. Dr. Ciano and his team have navigated the challenges of opening a pediatric practice and created a unique synergy between the two offices.
