3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing, is quickly moving into the consumer realm thanks to the recent availability of compact, affordable printers for do-it-yourselfers who like to design and make things. One of the leading manufacturers of 3D printers, MakerBot, has created a web site called Thingiverse to showcase the many types of objects that can be produced with its devices. There’s even a whole section devoted to eyeglasses, with designs that run from ridiculous to sublime.
